Sailorjin Z: Talking To A Turtle [Episode 91806]

by Kender

It was a sight to behold, and one that would have made any who had seen it smile with the pure and simple joy that it brought up. The expanse of beach was made of pristine and pure white sand coming up to water that was either so clear that one could see through it, or so blue that no artist could repoduced it. And upon this scene were two children, a boy and a girl who were happily bounding through the surf and palying together to their mutal merriment.

It was also almost enough to push Genma out of his funk and wonder how this could be possible. His son was being outclassed by his sister in every way, but instead of getting offended by it, he merely took it as an impetus to try and out do her. So they managed to stay friends with their small 'rivalry', despite having wildly different power levels.

But either way, he still needed to find a way for the boy to get a jump on catching up to his sister.

"I need to find something, anything that will give the boy an edge. He'll need it just to keep up with her, and I don't want her to leave him in the dust," Genma muttered under his breath as he walked along the beach, "What I need to do is to find some sort of technique, or item, or sensei that'll do it for me..."

And that was when he tripped over the line that was holding a boat in place.

"What's this?"

"It's what's keeping my boat from floating away and you nearly went and broke it!" called out an aged voice.

"I'm the turtle hermit, if you must know, and I came here for a bit of rest and relaxation. But you nearly let my only way back to my island get away!"

"I didn't mean too. I was just busy trying to work out my problems, and I didn't see this silly line of yours."

"Silly is it? And what's so important that you had to strand an old man?"

"My children, that's what," Genma informed him, "I want to make them the best martial artist's that they can be, but my son is falling behind, so I was trying to figure out how I could make him better."

"Are you now? You know, I used to be a martial artist myself. Fact is that people used to come to me for lessons all the time!"

"They did?"

The old man let out a large laugh. "Sure did. Seemed like everyone wanted to learn my special techniques so that they could be stronger and tougher than everyone else. But I wasn't about to teach just about anyone, so I only picked the best students, and when they were done, I decided to retire to my island."

"Just how good are you?"

"Strong enough to have a reputation among the best fighters around. Time was that I was the strongest fighter anyone knew."

Hope began to flare in Genma's heart. Perhaps here was the man that could help his son become stronger! If he was telling the truth, then he could impart his techniques on the boy, and then he'd be able to keep up with his sister. But it wouldn't do to mess this opportunity up, and he tried to look severe as he spoke with the old man while:
