Fetching milk for cereal was a task involving strength, endurance, and speed. Mainly because the nearest corner market was twenty miles away on a different island.
Though the heavy armored shells they had to constantly wear also played a role in the harshness of training.
Ranma was the more skilled. Usagi the more powerful. In competition, it was usually Usagi winning unless accuracy was part of the objective.
Ranma had to push himself further and further just to keep even. He couldn't out-power his sister, so he had to out-manuever his sister.
Genma watched as sharks chased Ranma and Usagi around briefly. Then watched as Usagi acted as bait momentarily until Ranma got into position to strike. Genma watched as sharks were skewered onto poles and roasted for lunch.
Ranma and Usagi got faster, stronger, and began developing their sense of balance and control.
Genma gained twelve pounds. He also took a few pictures and wrote a letter to his wife explaining how well Ranma's training was coming along.
Genma left the island and sent the letter a year after they'd arrived at the island. They'd have to stop by every so often though. Genma knew the old man had more tricks that he could teach the two students. Best not to remain in any one place for long though.
Genma had watched as the two had removed those ultraheavy shells (being up to their fourth set by now) and stretched out. Then, at the Hermit's urging, the two had leapt.
Prior to this they had made leaps that would have astounded someone not familiar with the sort of martial artists Genma was familiar with. Now they made leaps that drew an approving nod from Genma, truly prodigous ones that seemed ready to become true flight at any moment.
Now the kids were ready for some special training, Genma thought to himself. Now the kids were nearly eight. Time to:
