A small island upon which sheep and cows and other food animals roamed, the city itself being underground in the single dead volcano, with darn little to offer the world at large. It had been settled by dwarven isolationists years ago, and except for the occasional trade with gnomes and halflings aboard their ships - the dwarves had carved out a comfortable existence where the worst things they had to worry about were goblins arriving by ship and stealing (or doing other unsavory things) to the sheep.
Still, they all knew there was a bigger world out there.
Out into that world went young Ranma, the world's tallest dwarf.
Or so it seemed. Years of working a forge and spent in combat practice had made him tough and stocky. He wasn't a pushover by any means, though he also wasn't the same Ranma who had been so upset over Akane's rejection all those years ago.
Ranma wore his best armor and carried his best weapons when he took the gnomish trading ship Topaz away from the only home he knew. As a 'steelsinger' he could probably get a job as a weaponsmith nearly anywhere in Toril, but he wasn't sure he wanted to settle to that profession right away.
Ahead of him lay his first experiences outside of the dwarven enclave, and according to the gnomes this was:
