Though he worried when Sinda did not greet him on his arrival. On finding her lying in a heap near a path, his worries grew. With her coloring it was hard to tell but he thought she looked paler. Certainly her flesh was colder than he expected it to be.
He was trying to find an explanation when he found a tear in her clothing and a wound beneath it. It wasn't bleeding, but the skin right there was warmer and swollen.
What to do? Other than start sniffing around and catch another scent. In his hunting cat form he could easily smell the other, someone who had knelt here for long hours in wait.
The cat threw his head back in anger and frustration before grabbing his friend with his jaws into her shoulder and dragging her back to her camp.
The assassin got up from her observation point. The escapee would die within the day, the spider venom in her blood causing her to suffer long before her heart finally stopped. The dumb animal would not be able to make a difference in that.
She could now return to the Underdark, away from this hated sunlight and disgusting woods. The hunt had been successful, the prey brought down, and the filth eliminated by her own hand.
Some things were best done by family after all.
Pewter was quite beside himself. His friend was dying and he was but a hatchling dragon. What could he do?
Sinda opened her eyes and briefly focussed on his face. With what seemed a supreme effort she smiled and lifted a hand to touch the side of his muzzle before slumping back down again.
Pewter again raised muzzle to howl in frustration. When he looked down again though, he knew what to do.
