But it had all been worth it to get rid of her target. She had taken long enough to get to know the traitor's habits before slaying her, and now that she had done it, there was nothing keeping her there. Especially as there were nothing save these stupid woodland creatures to see her.
Except that many of the 'woodland creatures' weren't what they seemed, and were wondering what they should do about her.
Pewter was mad with himself for not coming along sooner, with whatever had done this to his friend, and whatever was making it so hard to help her. He had no idea of how long she had left, and didn't know if she could survive a trip to the healers. But he did realise that if she didn't get help soon, she wouldn't be living for long.
He focused everything he had in the need to help her, and decided that he would do whatever could. It might not be much, but he wasn't going to give up. He would do whatever it took.
But as he tried to do something, he realised that it was actually working, as he could see a glow around her. It wasn't something that he'd ever seen her do before, and that whatever he was doing was working. He knew that he had little understanding of what he was doing, but he knew that he could not, and would not let his friend leave like this.
And as he used the extent of his draconic powers, he changed her with it, effectively:
