Hana sat at the table of the Saotome home with a look of absolute confusion that comes from having your world view thrown out a window. In this case it had jumped out the tenth story of her brain only to smash on the concrete evidence that being a god or goddess meant being catered to, having lots of servants, and being a bossy prick. A few moments ago her lady, Nodoka, had properly introduced herself and asked Hana to identify herself. She had done so after splashing the hot water from the thermos over herself. Hana then told her about the Phoenix Tribe and how she was their new Goddess. Before she could speak about too much Lady Nodoka invited her to sit down and have tea with her. At this point she thought she would see at least one servant who would make and serve the tea. But that belief died shortly after her Lady went to the kitchen and prepared it herself.
Hana turned away from her thoughts as Nodoka entered the room. She received another shock when Nodoka served her tea and politely offered her a biscuit. Hana was still wondering about the lack of servants and decided to ask about it, and hoped she would not offend her Lady.
"My Lady," Hana asked timidly, "why are there no servants here to attend you. You are a Goddess and should not have to attend to such lowly tasks as this"
"Goddess?" asked a rather shocked Nodoka. "How on earth did you come up with the idea that I am a Goddess? And why do you call me Lady?"
"My Lord Saffron the Phoenix God told me he sensed the creation of a new Phoenix God. Since you are a woman, which makes you the new Phoenix Goddess. As the religion of the Tribe dictates you are also a ruler of the realm, which means it is only proper to call you my Lady"
This explanation confused Nodoka. She asked Hana to tell her all about her people hoping for a better understanding of what she was saying. Hana told her of the history of the Phoenix Tribe and how Saffron appeared to help them survive the cold harsh life of the mountain. Nodoka came to the conclusion that Saffron was a phoenix and not a God. He may have been declaring himself a God from the start, or eventually came to that belief from years of having the people of the Tribe worship him. But it did sound like the Tribe worshipped Saffron and would do the same for her if she chose to live there. She wanted to find her son, but she felt it would be impolite not to at least visit the mountain where the Phoenix Tribe lived.
While Nodoka contemplated what to do Hana was doing her own pondering. Lady Nodoka was nice to her. She treated her as someone to be respected, not like a pawn on the chess board of life. Her Lady was polite and obviously caring of others. Hana realized she Liked Lady Nodoka more than Lord Saffron. She even found herself wondering if Lady Nodoka would be a better ruler. She also noticed her Lady looked upset about something. Before she could ask she noticed a picture nearby. It appeared to be Lady Nodoka holding a child and looking very much like a proud mother.
"My Lady, is the child in this picture yours?"
Nodoka looked at the photo and began to cry. She told Hana everything about the last few days. How Genma had done something to their son, how she came to become a Phoenix; and especially about how she had no way to search for her son without worrying about getting negative attention.
