Great Will/Tribals: Have You Ridden A Fjord Lately? [Episode 140244]

by Kestral

This was not their home reality, though some things remained. Other things were changed.

For example, there was no Chinese Amazon village. There was a Musk Dynasty in roughly the same location, but it was different in several intrinsic manners.

The Tribals had gathered a few hundred of their Nekomimi tribe in a place called Norway, in a citadel carved out of the ice and rock of the northern part of that country. When Sweden had conquered their neighbor, in rather the manner of a Gaul village against the Roman Empire centuries earlier, there had been this one little corner that had never surrendered and never been overcome despite the best efforts of the invading country. One of the territorial shifts after WWII had ended with the rest of Norway again independent but in the meantime that one little village had been victorious in holding off superior forces.

It was natural for at least one group of Tribals to run across the legendary village/fortress and then a group of them to descend upon said village.

Some of those of the village claimed to be descended from Scythian horse nomads who had fled their homeland over five thousand years ago - the legendary Amazons! There was darn little evidence of such a thing, but so it was.

The rest claimed their Viking heritage and that they were warriors all! So it was an odd mix of cultures, with some anxiously learning what they could of their ancient Scythian heritage (even though horses were wildly impractical where they lived so they made do with horse-motifs in carvings) and the rest proud of their Viking warrior culture.

Since it had been a few decades since the Tribals had arrived, there were now Nekomimi who could proudly trace their heritage back to the times of the Aesir and Vanir, or Scythian Amazons, or both.

"-and so you see, he's terrified of cats. Why - I wrapped him up in all manner of cat treats and threw him into that pit repeatedly to get him over that fear. Sometimes I threw him in there more than once a day. Nothing I did... uhm." Genma's voice trailed off. A number of the village warriors were looming over him with the whole backlit-darkened features, lightning crashing in the background, ominous thunder echoing off the mountains, sort of thing going. "I tried to break him of that fear by rubbing his face in feral cats... gee is it getting warm in here? Errr. The boy is foolishly clinging to this fear of... excuse me." ZOOM!

One of the Tribals shut off the Nearly Universal Translator device. That way they wouldn't have to understand his pleas for mercy.

"C-c-c-c-cat," said Ranma, cringing in a corner of the village. Everywhere he looked. C-c-c-cat people. "N-n-nice kitties go away!"

The young catgirls watching from a distance were of two conflicting desires on this. Naturally compassionate, unless fighting, they wanted to soothe those fears away. As he was scared of them therefore they couldn't approach and thereby cause further pain. Sitting at a good distance away and watching over the youth had seemed to be a good compromise. It looked as if it was working, the boy wasn't curled up in a tight little ball any longer.

Zoom! GRAB! FLING!

That plan ended when the boy's father came in, grabbed his son, and then THREW that son into the pack following the father. The teenage catgirls were understandably upset at this. One sufficiently fast that she leapt into an intercept and caught the boy before he could come to harm.

The boy's reaction to being pounced on was different from what was expected though.

"Meow!"

"What happened to the father?"

"Tied up in ropes, stuffed in a barrel, then sent down the river. He should reach the next village in a couple of hours."

"There are three waterfalls and two rapids between here and there."

"Your point is?"

The elder scratched her head. "What of the boy then?"

"Still thinks he's a cat. Still curled up in that one girl's lap, getting petted, and purring a lot."

The elder's ears went flat. "The boy came to learn. When he has recovered, let him learn. See if his fears can be lessened while he learns. Eventually the father will return and we shall have to relinquish him by law."

"Yes, elder."

The young girl petted the sleeping boy curled up in her lap and wondered how such a thing had occurred.

Not to mention how a human boy could purr in his sleep. How very strange indeed.

Still, to protect the boy for any length of time they were planning on having a ceremony. It would take weeks to properly plan and execute - but the boy couldn't leave during that time. That gave a chance for healing.

Still, it would be interesting to see how he reacted when he learned he had been held for such a long time by:
