Pride was the one word that best described almost every pureblood involved in politics. It didn't matter what side of the fence the person was on for the muggleborn question or Voldemort. They were all proud of their long magical heritages. That made the fact that Lily had defeated Voldemort extremely uncomfortable for these purebloods. How could many of them convince their wives that they were so great when She-Who-Cleaves could be thrown in their face? What did it say about them when they ran and hid from He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named-Because-We-Don't-Have-Any-Guts and a muggleborn witch literally cut Voldemort in half? Lily's victory was probably the most emasculating event to ever hit magical Britain.
Eventually, the situation and the ridicule got so bad that a special meeting of the Wizengamot was called to address the situation. After many hours of debate, most of which was moaning from many members over the fact that their wives weren't giving them any until they proved that they were 'real wizards', the Wizengamot authorized a normally forbidden ritual to examine Lily's bloodline. Hopefully, there would be something in her family tree that they could point to as being why a mere muggleborn could defeat the greatest Dark Lord of the century.
The only members of the Wizengamot who weren't desperately praying for something unusual in Lily's bloodline were Dumbledore, Sirius, and Arther. Dumbledore was just sore about his oh so precious prophecy not coming about. Sirius thought the whole situation was a great prank. As for Arther, he thought it was sad that no one wanted to admit that muggleborn could be so powerful.
As soon as the ritual was complete, Dumbledore had to read Lily's family tree. Everyone was surprised that Mr. Evans wasn't Lily's actual father and had at first hoped that it meant that Lily was actually a half-blood. However, no one had ever heard of a Uchiha family and the Wizengamot quickly decided to ignore Lily's paternal ancestry. The members of the Wizengamot anxiously waited as Dumbledore read all Lily's maternal heritage until it was discovered that...
