The clocks stopped and then reversed themselves. The Great Will flared. Some would say that only Akane could be a perfect match for Ranma.

Now however, the engagement had never occurred because it never could have occurred.

The Mechanism Of Action for this being:

• Akane was engaged to Tatewaki Kuno prior to Ranma's arrival. She hits him and says she loathes him - obviously it's love!
• Genma Saotome studied under another martial arts master, leaving Soun Tendo to suffer alone under Happosai. Ranma is engaged to the daughter of someone whom Genma studied with/under.
• Genma Saotome studied under another martial arts master, leaving Soun Tendo to suffer alone under Happosai. Ranma is engaged to the daughter of someone whom Genma studied with/under.
• some other engagement possibility
