On a sunny day in January, something truly awful had occurred. A sign of the apocalypse.
Tatewaki Kuno had gotten a clue.
During the commencement speech he had changed his mind about wooing Akane through combat. He was a samurai, was he not? He would do the appropriate thing for a samurai and a scion of the mighty house of Kuno.
He had approached her father, plunked down a large sum of money, and bought himself an engagement to his true love - Akane Tendo.
Nabiki had pointed out Akane's reaction had been several things but happy was not on the list. Loud, yes. Insulting, yes. Violent, yes.
If it had been a reaction to Ranma Saotome being engaged to Akane, all of those things would have simply proved to Soun that the two were a perfect couple. With the money being involved and a suitor apparently ready to take care of his youngest - Soun interpreted Akane's reaction in a similar manner.
Weeks before a rainy day in March and the arrival of two visitors, it was made legal and official. Akane Tendo was engaged to Tatewaki Kuno.
Akane had not been getting a lot of sleep since then, nightmares awakening her. Not that being awake was much better. She was engaged to KUNO.
Kasumi picked up the bulk bottles of Maalox Plus nowadays, mindful of her little sister having developed stomach problems.
There had even been a visitor to the dojo of late, someone who oddly enough sympathized with Akane to some extent, and was actually a new friend to Akane even if she was a bit weird. Kodachi Kuno, Tatewaki's sister. Soon to be Akane's sister-in-law. Okay, she was missing more than a few cards from her deck. Not as bad as she might have later become.
Yuka and Sayuri had been Akane's friends for more than a few years. That they alternated between sympathy for Akane and enthusiasm for a wedding kind of cooled that relationship.
Finally a day in March came along, a postcard with a panda arrived. Two martial artists arrived.
