Ranma Saotome had disappeared that day, taking all his meager belongings (and a few more he thought he deserved like his father's collection of martial arts scrolls and a big part of Nabiki's money). He left without a glance backwards, letting the Nerima regulars to their own devices. Screw them all and good riddance...
Of course, the entire district exploded when it became obvious he would not return. The fathers, his mother, the rivals and the fiancees turned Nerima upside down in their search but found nothing. Most of them were in denial over the reality ofthe situation, so much that when they finally resorted to call the authorities or using modern tracking methods, it was too late.
Months passed... Without any signs of Ranma, Nodoka decided that his running away was proof of his unmanliness and ordered Genma to go find Ranma so the both of them could commit seppuku. Needless to say, the panda left for parts unknow but no one thought he would put much efforts in the search. From this point on, the Saotomes weren't seen in Nerima again.
Soun Tendo became even much more of a wreck if it was possible. Uniting the schools was his obsession, it was the only thing that kept him going since the death of his wife. Without it, he didn't see the point in living. Kasumi was his only anchor in this life. His eldest daughter had basically to take care of him all the time and what few bits of private life she had left were sacrificed on the altar of family duty.
Without Ranma to hold them here, the amazons and Ukyo left. Cologne went back to the village alone, Shampoo was exiled until she came back with her husband or proof of his death. Mousse stayed with her. Ukyo and Konatsu searched on their own.
Life went on. Nabiki and Akane went to college. Later, they had to take jobs to support the family. The Tendo dojo stood empty, its martial arts legacy withering away. The other Nerima regulars except for a few like Ryoga gave up on Ranma and the place they had for him/her in their life. A new generation of martial artists took the spotlight from the old guard, be they their offspring or new faces.
Twenty years after Ranma's disappearance, a stranger appeared in Nerima. Wearing a heavy cloak and hood, he couldn't be identified but the Nerima residents knew well enough to recognize a martial artist. And a dangerous one at that...
The lone figure jumped suddenly and stood on top of a lamppost, taking in the scenery "Nerima... It has been a long time... A very long time..." The voice of Ranma Saotome echoed in the breeze. The wild horse was back after all these years !
It hadn't been a pleasure ride for him. He had had to make hard choices to survive and make a living. Gone were the naivete of his youth, he had discovered that the world was indeed a dark and lonely place like Ryoga said. Bitter, twisted, cynical, violent, hateful... All these words described him and then some now...
Ranma Saotome, heir to the Saotome school of Anything Goes martial arts, had died the day he had discovered no one truly cared about him. In its place was Ranma Saotome, ...
