Uh oh, she thought as she walked into the room. She closed the door and walked over to the console to see what it was....
Back at Misato's apartment....
Shinji, Rei, Asuka, and Misato were seated around the kitchen table eating dinner.
"Thanks for this wonderful meal, Misato, it is delicious." beamed Shinji.
"Thank you, Master. I try my best." replied Misato.
"So Sapphire, anything new to report?" asked Asuka.
"Nothing out of the ordinary, Ruby.... However, it is prudent that we all be on guard to what goes on around us."
"I agree." concurred Shinji.
A few moments later, PenPen wadled up to the table and stood next to Misato. "Waaaarrk." uttered the penguin, holding a small, slim black box under one flipper.
"For me?... Why thank you, PenPen." answered Misato, smiling at her pet. She reached down to get the box.
The others looked at her blankly.
"Phone call--and yes I can understand PenPen thanks to Master." Opening the phone, she frowned at the display. "Ritsuko called." Pushing a button, she placed the cellphone up to her ear and waited for Ritsuko to answer. "Am--er, Misato here, what is it Ritsuko?"
"The MAGI found something you should know about. Can you come down to the lab for a few minutes? It is *very* important."
"Understood. I'm on my way." Closing the cellphone, Misato stood up. "Duty calls, Master." she walked out of the kitchen and left her apartment.
'I wonder if I should wish that the rest of us can understand PenPen....' thought Shinji....
PenPen looked up at Shinji silently and blinked....
In the MAGI lab....
"What is it, Ritsuko?" asked Misato.
"During the last Angel attack, the MAGI detected an energy spike of unkown origin. Here, let me show you." replied Ritsuko, turning on a monitor. An audiovisual recording of the activity in the Command Center began to play back, overlaid in one corner with a small, rectangular display. "The corner display shows the level of electromagnetic spectra detected here at NERV. Watch closely."

"Misato, any ideas on how to stop this thing?" Asuka asked.
"Not at the moment. Give me a bit." Misato cringed, as she answered a few moments later
"Please Misato. If we don't get some sort of plan soon, the EVA's will run out of power." pleaded Shinji.
"I know," Misato replied, remaining silent as if in thought....
"I really wish you would come up with a plan to help us out, Misato!" Shinji cried out.
For a moment, the readings on the corner display jumped to the maximum before returning back to normal.
"I have it. Shinji! Asuka! Try to destroy the core of both halves at the same time. That should defeat it."
"Understood," came the unisoned response of Shinji and Asuka.

Ritsuko stopped the playback and looked at Misato. "Something wrong, Misato? You look like you've seen a ghost."
The color had drained from Misato's face....'Ritsuko knows.' she sent.
'I'm on my way.... Saphire and Ruby, Amesthyst needs my help.' broadcasted Shinji.
Rei and Asuka nodded, watching Shinji leave Misato's apartment....
Later...
'Can Ritsuko be trusted?' asked Shinji.
'I...I think so, Master.' replied Misato.
"Dr. Akagi, I can explain... but not here. Why don't you, Misato, and I go for a drive into town." announced Shinji in a grave, dead-serious tone.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're spinning some kind of scenario like your father, Shinji." quipped Ritsuko with a smirk, "All right, lead the way."
Shinji, Misato, and Ritsuko filed out of the lab....
In Gendo Ikari's office....
Kaji Ryouji stood before the desk of his superior, the Commander in Chief of NERV.
"Agent Ryouji." addressed Gendo Ikari.
"Yes sir?" replied Kaji, snapping to attention.
"Shinji, Misato, and Ritsuko are on their way into town. Follow them. Report any anomolies."
"Any particular reason, sir?" asked Kaji respectfully.
Gendo just smiled knowingly for a moment. "That...is a secret." He then went back to the paperwork on his desk.
"Understood, sir." Kaji replied. He turned around and departed Gendo's office to do the NERV Commander's bidding....
