Here was a universe where Keiichi Morisato never met Belldandy, never got involved with goddesses or demons or tiny ninja. Instead he simply went on with a normal life, gradually being eroded by despair and loneliness, until a shell was left of his previous potential. His luck continued to be as bad as ever, missing chances for happiness that he often never even knew were there. It wouldn't be difficult at all to intervene there and cause humorous romance to develop, substituting something or someone else for the usual wishcraft.
Over here, Shinji Ikari. In a mainstream universe - he met a bad ending along with the rest of humanity. He just lasted a bit longer. In some of the worst ones, he and humanity died together. To get a happier and more humorous result would not be difficult.
There were ones like Chrono Crusade universes where the plucky heroine and her associates all came to Worst Endings in the mainline. Heck, there were so many Bad Endings out there, it seemed a shame NOT to recycle one or two.
Then there were those crossover/fusion universes. Some of which were less stable to begin with.
Toltiir amused himself as he watched things play out in a Sailor Moon/Evangelion universe where the Senshi were giant robot pilots and their typical enemies were the Angels coming to reboot the entire human race through acquisition of the Fruit Of Life And Death - the ginzuishou. Though it got considerably less amusing after Usagi began her retreat into madness.
Turning from that with distaste, he saw a version of Keichi Morisato who was placed in charge of the Hinata Inn - and who died of injuries after being punched through a wall.
No, some of these universes really needed something. Toltiir paused, searching back through memories to remember the proper term. Oh yes, they called it 'an intervention' didn't they?
