Many people had a sort of idealized belief in what was capable by certain individuals. If a person became a hero with a high enough level of power, people had a tendency to hold them in high regard, and think that they could do great things. Now, that wasn't really all that much of a problem for the most part, as they could truly do some amazing feats.

Unfortunately, there was also a tendency to think that these people were infallible. It was thought that they could simply go forth and do as they liked, which did turn into a bit of a problem when one thought about it. In some cases, like with a sorcerer trying to battle something that ate spells, the 'great and mighty hero' was actually at a rather big disadvantage.

In this case, the assembled group was not all knowing. They had a lot of knowledge, a great deal of wisdom, and a sizable ability to find out what they didn't already know. But as the little boy had suddenly just appeared in their midst, it was a bit difficult for them to automatically know which of the many gods or goddesses had placed his or her favor upon him.

That was the way that the gods liked it. They might be strong deities with a deep need to guide mortals onto the path that they laid out, but that didn't mean that they were always so clear with their thoughts. Well, some of them tended to be direct, but they didn't exactly spend a lot of time giving commentary on every decision that they made.

So, it wasn't exactly hard to understand why the group of powerful magic users hadn't immediately realized that this boy was a Chosen of:
